The 2019 Oscar nominations were revealed this week. Movies ranging from Netflix Originals to the powerhouse studio mainstays were all well represented in every category of this year’s noms. But, none more surprising than Black Panther receiving a Best Picture nomination. Will Oscar trade his gold for vibranium and award Marvel’s smash hit with Hollywood’s highest honor? Would an Oscar win lend any further validity to comic book movies as not just “good fun” but also great films?
