Is Netflix a Sinking Ship?

Is Netflix a Sinking Ship?

We’re all saddened by the sudden—yet expected—news that The Punisher and Jessica Jones are now officially cancelled. The general consensus is that they’ll more than likely return on Disney’s streaming service, Disney+ due out later this year (presumably in the fall). So, with Disney making a push at the streaming service game and Hulu as well as Amazon Prime releasing great original content, is Netflix a sinking ship doomed to go under? Is there enough original content on Netflix’s roster to keep you on their service? Are they doing a good enough job of supplementing what’s leaving with something as good and/or better? The Beta Boys tackle all these questions and more, including a review of one of those original series: The Umbrella Academy.

Plus another New Tune Tuesday, on Thursday…except on Friday. All that an so much more on this week’s episode of The Beta Report.

Is SOLO a Flop? TBR's SOLO Review [SPOILERS]

SOLO has smuggled its way into theaters and lets just say, people are having a bad feeling about this. There's been a lot of nerd rage surrounding this film and the visceral reaction by the Star Wars community has never been more hostile. But, is SOLO: A Star Wars Story really as bad as people are making it out to be? Is SOLO not worth watching? Is SOLO: A Star Wars Story truly a flop?

This week, The Beta Bros send Uno off on his Money Heist vacation as he hustles his way through the mean streets of Spain. So, while he's gone, the KON and Jay are here to cut through the nerd noise and give you guys a spoiler filled review of SOLO. Nothing goes on touched as the Bros take on what they loved about the film and what they hated. They also ponder which direction can Star Wars go from here, and are we willing to take that ride. Plus, we have a new PICK OF THE WEEK and we are also proud to present our One Minute Tangent segment sponsored by MoviePass (Not Really. Black Lightning & Pun Man Save the Day

When you're struck with a jolt of fear and the thunderous charge of danger is shockingly near. Worry not, as the electrifying duo of Black Lightning and Pun Man are here to light your darkest nights! Okay, that is about as punny as I can get without throwing up. But, this is our show in a nutshell. We review the CW's brand new super hero show Black Lightning's first episode. Are the characters compelling? Is the villain a real threat? Is this show Beta Approved? You'll have to listen to find out.

And, as the CW universe of DC characters continues to expand, we discuss what movie or TV universe we'd most like to live in. Would Uno like to live in the MCU to assume his secret super hero identity: Pun Man? Would the Kon want to meet the alternate Khan in the Star Trek Universe? Am I going to Never-land so that I can really be Forever Five?!? You'll just have to listen to find out.

We also decided to extend last week's SECRET WORD CHALLENGE for one more week! We also have a new SECRET WORD CHALLENGE for this week that would effect our blog. Plus, as always, we have a new...no, we have THREE PICKS OF THE WEEK for you to check out. All that and many many more puns, and so much more, on this week's episode of The Beta Report.

The box. Telly. Small screen. The tube. The boob-tube. TV. Television. We all have one. Or two, or three. We even carry one in our pocket now! The way we consume TV shows today, has changed dramatically in the last couple of years. With streaming services, cable channel apps, and video-sharing websites all providing access to what we could only get at a certain time in one particular place, has now opened up a world of opportunities to mind-numbingly binge every TV show that is out there. That’s where we come in. The Beta Report has done all your homework for you. They don’t call one of us the King of The Nerds for nothing. In today’s episode, we highlight some of the best brand new shows coming out this year and we also look at some of our favorite returning shows like Jessica Jones, The Handmaid’s Tale and Atlanta.

(Not So) Mini Episode

Jay is visiting family out of state, but that won't stop him from sitting alone, in a car, on a dark street, in a dusky small town in New Mexico fearing alien probes, blue meth dealers or Pennywise to provide you with the most entertaining nonsense you can imagine. You can always count on The Beta Bros to waste your time no matter which state we are in. You can also count on TBR to do a mini-episode, but still make it an hour long show!

This week, we discuss the return of JJ Abrams to the Star Wars Universe as its being reported that he has now been hired to write and direct Episode IX after Colin Trevorrow's firing. We also talk Narcos: Season 3, Little Evil, and Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water, which we unfortunately missed in our last episode "Fall Preview (Movies)".

We also have a very different PICK OF THE WEEK for you and so much more on this week's episode of The Beta Report.

FALL PREVIEW (MOVIES)

FALL PREVIEW (MOVIES)

It's Episode 89! It's a sad day here at The Beta Report HQ as we say goodbye to Game of Thrones Season 7, and even more devastating...we bid farewell to the beloved (mostly by us) "Game of Bros" segment! Nevertheless, we unsheathe our gallant words one last time this year and breakdown the season finale of GoT: "The Dragon and the Wolf". But, beware...SPOILERS are gnawing and clawing like the army of the dead in this episode. So, again, beware and proceed with caution.

We also breakdown some of our most anticipated movies of the Fall. With some obvious choices like IT, Thor: Ragnarok, Justice League, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, to some not so obvious picks like Jackie Chan's The Foreigner and...Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle?

The KON also shares his thoughts on the new Amazon Prime super hero show The Tick: Season 1. All that and so much more on this weeks episode of The Beta Report.

The Defenders Review (Plus GoB)

It's Episode 86! The Defenders is finally here! For what felt like ages, Marvel has finally released its Netflix heroes' team-up adventure series and we've seen the whole thing. We got our SPOILER FREE REVIEW as well as our thoughts on the question everyone seems to be asking...is Iron Fist/Danny Rand better here than in his own series? We answer that and a few other questions regarding some of the show's other heroes, villains, and their futures in the NMCU (Netflix Marvel Cinematic Universe).

Plus, we have another entry in the ongoing Game of Bros (GoB) segment, as Game of Thrones continues to march past the threshold of awesomeness with another great episode. This week we dissect Episode 6, "Beyond the Wall" as The Magnificent 7 aka The Suicide Squad aka The Westeros Avengers, go wight hunting in the snow. Zombie polar bears, flaming swords, Tormund and The Hound talking about Brienne...this episode has it all! By the way, "Tormund & The Hound" is the next great buddy-cop-Lethal-Weapon-Esque spin-off show that needs to happen. We got you HBO, let us write it. Hit us up!
